Nuwan Nanayakkara, Ph.D.
Nuwan Dayananda (Nuwan Nanayakkara) is currently serving as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering at University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. His research is focused on using Engineering principles to solve problems in Medicine and Biology, or Biomedical Engineering. He is specifically interested in medical imaging and medical image processing related research such as surgical simulators, image guided surgery and therapy. He also interested in developing applications in areas of distance medical consultations (Telemedicine).
Nuwan's research expertise in Biomedical Engineering was established at the University of Western Ontario (UWO, London, ON, Canada), where he developed medical image processing applications to solve medical and biological problems. His current research interests were originated form the research experience especially at the Robarts Research Institute of UWO.
Nuwan Dayananda is an alumni of St. Servatius' College, Matara, Sri Lanka. He received his B.Sc. Engineering degree in Electronics & Telecommunication from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka with first class honors, in 1999. Upon graduation, he was absorbed to the academic staff of the Department of Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering, University of Moratuwa. He obtained his M.E.Sc. degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada in 2003, and obtained his Ph.D. degree at the same university in Biomedical Engineering in 2008.
